At the end of the year, the Dortmunder Kunstverein presents two solo exhibitions in parallel: Jannis Marwitz (*1985 in Nuremberg, lives and works in Brussels) focuses on figurative painting and drawing while Matt Welch (*1988 in Liverpool, lives and works in Frankfurt) realizes sculptural installations enhanced by video elements.
Narch Till June / Närz bis April is the first institutional solo exhibition by Jannis Marwitz in Germany. His work opens up a vivid reflection on the centuries-old medium of painting. With figurative motifs and unusual colour combinations, the artist spans an arc through art history, which leads from ancient reliefs over Baroque compositions to digitally animated images.
