Hoda Tawakol – Some Ties Linger On

In 2023, Dortmunder Kunstverein presented the first institutional solo exhibition of the Egyptian-French artist Hoda Tawakol (*1968 in London, lives in Hamburg). The exhibition Silent Voices in a Palm Grove became the point of departure for a comprehensive catalogue project bringing together works from the past ten years. The resulting publication, Some Ties Linger On, is now being released by KERBER Verlag, and we are delighted to present it on this evening, accompanied by a conversation between Hoda Tawakol and Rebekka Seubert. The catalogue includes numerous reproductions of Tawakol’s works, installation views from Dortmunder Kunstverein, as well as texts by Dr. Omar Kholeif and Rebekka Seubert. During the release, signed copies will be available, either individually or—available in a limited edition—together with an artwork.

Razzmatazz – Inside the Album Listening Session

In November 2024, the Dortmund-based musician released his debut album The Heat, shaped by influences from soul, hip-hop, jazz, and electronic music. The album stands as a powerful statement on identity, resistance, and cultural self-empowerment.

"This debut album effortlessly traverses a multitude of musical genres, seamlessly fusing together Jazz, Hip-Hop, and electronic elements. It serves as a testament to the artist’s remarkable skill in navigating diverse sonic landscapes and providing an immersive musical journey. Razzmatazz’s creates a subtle link of influence between J-Dilla, Massive Attack, Moderat and free jazz artist Sun Ra. The audio creation of Razzmatazz’s compositions is a marvel for the ears, both in terms of melodies and rhythmic dynamics and structures. Thanks to his music, we discover a unique and intimate universe, where voices, beats and instrumental compositions intertwine to create a spacey, avant-garde harmony." Fidel Amoussou-Moderan (Jump-A-Delic Recordz)
