FLURFLIMMERN meets Kunstverein: MENTAL HEALTH

An evening curated by the artist collective DER FLUR – hosted by screenwriter and director Gina Wenzel.

How do people deal with inner pressure, illness, or exclusion? Where does psychological vulnerability begin – and how can it be made visible?
This evening features five award-winning short films that explore mental health in the tension between body, society, and the inner self.

PROGRAM

Alex in den Feldern (Short film, 2024, 29 min)
Director: Marie Zrenner
Two young men on a therapy farm: Adrian is struggling with addiction; Alex comes to visit. A poignant study of healing, intimacy, and emotional vulnerability in a protected space.

Xanh (2022, short film, 12 min, animation)
Director: Thi Dang An Tran
A touching animated dialogue between a daughter and her father about experiences of racism – and the silent helplessness passed down through generations.

Gör (2022, short film, 9 min)
Director: Anna Roller
A single mother pushed to the brink: When her son is accused of theft, the situation spirals out of control. A stark and deeply moving short film about fear, responsibility, and psychological overwhelm.

Pandas don’t cry (2020, series pilot, 15 min)
Director: Gina Wenzel
A farm. A few chickens. A few sheep. And seven inner-city kids between parties, drugs, petty crime, and the search for meaning – given one last chance for a fresh start on a therapy farm.

Trübes Wasser (2020, short film, 10 min)
Director: Elena Wiener
The protagonist lives with an autoimmune disease – and increasingly loses herself in psychological isolation. A powerful mix of animation, live action, and sound design brings her inner world to life.
