TOUR IN DIALOGUE
with Mira van Leewen (Deutsches Kochbuchmuseum, Dortmund)

DIALOGIC TOUR
with Mira van Leewen (German Cookbook Museum, Dortmund) and Linda Schröer
Mira van Leewen and Linda Schröer discuss the migration of food, the preparation of coffee, and the significance of various cooking utensils and techniques through the artworks in the exhibition "Schlaraffenland." They take a detour into the history of asparagus and talk about the prohibition of night baking, food in times of crisis and scarcity, and the knowledge stored in cookbooks. This open conversation aims to encourage reflection on our food culture and its diverse social meanings, which extend far beyond the act of eating itself, using practices like table setting as a starting point.
"The cookbook library is a place for anyone interested in nutrition, food culture and stories. During consultation hours, a team of volunteers will process your inquiries. Whether you are looking for a recipe for a seasonal dish, researching for a scientific paper or simply enjoy browsing through cookbooks, the volunteers will take care of your request. Cookbooks that the library owns more than once can be taken to the Henriette-Davidis-Gesellschaft e.V. in return for a donation to the cookbook museum.
For over 30 years, the cookbook library's collection has been continuously expanding. The collection now includes more than 15,000 titles. The focus is on literature for the kitchen and home in the 19th and 20th centuries in German-speaking countries. Encyclopaedias, guidebooks, educational publications, general practical cookbooks as well as emergency and wartime cookbooks round off the collection alongside brochures, reprints of older cookbooks as well as handwritten recipe collections and books on individual aspects such as preservation, dietetic or vegetarian nutrition."
