While literature and visual art are still largely perceived separately in German-speaking countries, the interdisciplinarity of writing artists and art-reflexive writers in New York has its own tradition: from Jill Johnston, Bernadette Mayer, Moyra Davey to Eileen Myles or Lynne Tillman, on whose fictional art critic figure Madame Realism the theorist Dr. Isabel Mehl did her doctorate.
