Talk and Q&A:
Astrida Neimanis „How to think (as) a body of water: Access! Amplify! Describe!“
moderated by José Montealegre and Rebekka Seubert, english language hybrid event
As a special program for our current exhibition Wet Resistance (until 31 oct 2022), we’re very happy to welcome cultural theorist Astrida Neimanis to dive deeper into some of the topics of this exhibition:
In this talk, cultural theorist Astrida Neimanis revisits the idea of posthuman feminist phenomenology to explore how living as a body of water is both a banal scientific fact (all biological bodies are primarily composed of water) but also a luscious possibility to be amplified further. To think (as) a body of water is thus also to contemplate the undercurrents of our existence and their often untapped poetic and political potential.
Astrida Neimanis is a cultural theorist and author of Bodies of Water: Posthuman Feminist Phenomenology (2017). Neimanis writes about water, bodies, and weather from intersectional feminist perspectives. Often in collaboration with artists, scientists, and communities, their work uses interdisciplinary and practice-based methods to experiment in different ways of knowing and being. They are currently Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Feminist Environmental Humanities and UBC Okanagan, where they are also Director of The FEELed Lab.
An event in the framework of KLEINER FREITAG in cooperation with Dortmunder U.
