Viron Erol Vert deals with religious systems and cultural identities. He focuses on the reciprocal relationships between inner spiritual and socially constructed spaces. Folded diagonally, the silk scarf Yes / No - One can express agreement or rejection and at the same time takes a critical look at simplistic dualisms, which dissolve into a conciliatory "both and" at the colorful edge of the scarf. The design refers to historical scarves from southern Germany, which the artist discovered in the ethnographic collection in Berlin Dahlem and with which the wearer communicated a positive or negative attitude or mood.
Viron Erol Vert (*1975 in Varel, lives, works and thinks between Berlin, Athens and Istanbul) studied fashion design at ESMOD and HTW Berlin, fine art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and, as a master student, textile and surface design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. He is a winner of the Villa Romana Prize (2018) and has had solo exhibitions there (2022) and at the Kunstverein Hamburg (2020) and Galerie Wedding, Berlin (2017), among others.
