Alison Yip's kite does not take flight but remains grounded, drifting like a tumbleweed through a barren landscape. Empty medication blister packs and discarded packaging materials are interwoven with pages from German-language magazines and newspapers. On closer inspection, these pages reveal various puzzles along with their solutions from previous issues. Momentum, pastime, and transience converge here in the kite’s fragility, subverting the traditional concept of kite flying.
Alison Yip is Canadian artist based in Germany. She works mainly through painting, wall treatments and found objects. Currently she is co-curating a show with Becket MWN at Mauer (Cologne). Upcoming shows include U's off site project at a Recycling Center in Diamond Valley (CAN), Franz Kaka (CAN), and Chris Andrews Gallery (CAN).
This year, as a homage to the rebellious power of the wind, we are presenting kites designed by nine artists. These will be showcased, flown, and subsequently offered as Jahresgaben during the anniversary celebration of the Dortmunder Kunstverein on November 30, 2024. The project was developed in collaboration with the artist Moritz Englebert, kindly supported by Stellfeld & Ernst GmbH.
