Jahresgaben

von 1982 bis heute

7 December 2013 – 18 January 2014

Since its founding in 1984, artists have donated editions and Jahresgaben to the Dortmunder Kunstverein. These are often unique pieces, but also works of art in small editions, which were created in connection with an exhibition at the Dortmunder Kunstverein or show the artist’s affiliation with the association.Since the establishment of art associations in Germany (mostly in the 19th century), artists have crucially supported the exhibition activities with Jahresgaben. To this day, Jahresgaben are so closely connected to the associations that their purchase is reserved exclusively for its members. Therefore, anyone who wishes to purchase a Jahresgabe must join the association. This exhibition is the beginning of the continuation of this tradition and the result of the reappraisal of the collection.

With the addition of works by artists from recent years, this presentation reflects the rich exhibition history of the association: works from Karl Otto Götz to Heinz Mack, from Roman Signer to Andreas Golinski, from Birgit Brenner to Via Lewandowsky. A special treasure of this exhibition are the works of Milan Grygar, born in 1926 in Zvolen (Slovakia), who was one of the first sound artists. The acoustic drawings shown in the exhibition exerted great influence on artists, such as John Cage.
